Christmas is over and the New Year is fast approaching and with it comes 2010. A New Year and no doubt some new online bingo websites too. When it comes to predicting what 2010 will hold for the online bingo industry the first thing we need to do is take a look at what happened during 2009.

You are probably aware of the fact that Party Gaming bought out the Cashcade group in a £100 million pound deal a while ago. News has just leaked about what might be on the cards for the online bingo website formally owned by Cashcade. According to news, it seems as if Party Gaming are developing a brand new online bingo software system which they will be moving all the Cashcade online bingo websites to. This means that those people who are big fans of Foxy Bingo should prepare themselves for some changes in the future. I wouldn’t panic though because according to sources this software probably won’t be ready for about two years.

We know that online bingo websites are always changing and new online bingo software could be just the thing needed to keep these online bingo websites on top. We will of course have to wait and see what this new online bingo software does but until then I am going to be keeping my eye on the promotions etc that these former Cashcade will be running to see if Party Gaming are going to bring in any new additions before they change the software.

The high court has finally agreed to uphold its decision to award Mecca bingo a £59 million VAT refund. It seems that Mecca Bingo overpaid their VAT between January 2003 and June 2008. The decision of the high court is much to the joy of Rank Group Plc who have been fighting hard for this all year. In addition there was also a further claim made by Rank for an additional £26 million in VAT which was also upheld.

The decision by the high court is a landmark decision for the entire UK based bingo operators who have all been fighting again high bingo taxes. Believe it or not, tax for bingo is at a whopping 22% whilst other gambling taxes are only 15%. The decision by the high court could actually cost the revenue so much more because now there are over 1,000 claims being made against them.

This has been very exciting new for UK bingo owners and there are sure to be more cases making the news headlines in the months and years to come and perhaps who knows the tax laws in relation to bingo and gambling may also have to be looked at.
